Beginners Cook Book: Doe’s Eat Place

I’d like to begin this blog about the beginners cook book with a interesting story about a famous restaurant in my home town.

Beginners Cook Book:  The Story

You know it’s true what they say about people who live in any city. It takes a visitor to appreciate your backyard especially when it comes to tourist points of interest and in this case famous recipes.

I’m originally from Greenville, MS and very familiar with Doe’s Eat Place. If you find yourself  in this town you may accidentally wonder into one of the parts of town that people often warn you about being in after night fall. Well, it’s that part of town that you’ll stumble across the best steak you could put in your mouth.

I must admit that I’d never eaten there until this past year when I found myself back home visiting a friend who had been hospitalized. Not wanting the usual burger and fries I decided to venture down to Doe’s and give it a try. Well, I’m not a food critic but it was the best steak I’d eaten in these 40+ years. The kind of meal that I often pause while eating, eyes closed of course, and try to imagine a place that could be any better than the present.

Beginners Cook Book:  Food Network Review

Well, I happened to be watching the Food Network one evening when they were doing one of those “best of” various types of foods shows by Bon Appetit Magazine. You know, best fried chicken, best taco, best pizza … and of course best steak. In the review Bon Appetit Magazine basically would show the top three or four restaurants in the USA for each category visiting the locations and seeing what each did that made their item unique.

Amazingly Doe’s Eat Place, in little old Greenville, MS, was among the top four restaurants in the country for steaks. It made my mouth water all over again! Imagine that, a famous restaurant recipe for steaks.

So if you find yourself down south in a place called Greenville, MS, take a minute to eat at Doe’s Eat Place. I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
